When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
The Salvation Army in Monessen has partnered with a local artist to take that advice and will use a creative twist to raise money for a good cause.
The Salvation Army and Off the Wall Arts owner Casey Clark will host a LemonAID fundraiser. Open to Mon Valley residents of all ages, the event will help the Salvation Army purchase necessary items for its annual back-to-school drive.
Capt. Sue Thwaite said she wanted a creative way to make sure the organization has enough school supplies this year.
The event is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Pumpkin Patch at 350 Donner Ave. in Monessen. A rain date is scheduled for Thursday.
Guests will enjoy a glass of fresh-squeezed lemonade and treats while painting glassware, led by Clark.
The socially distant event is a fun way to celebrate summer while helping area children, Thwaite said.
“We want to bring families and friends together in a safe way to make sure our kids can be ready for what will be a very unique school year,” she said.
Masks must be worn while walking to or from table areas, but can be removed when painting.
“We want people to have fun crafting and creating for our kids,” Thwaite said. “This is something the whole family could enjoy.”
