Rostraver Township may get a 28-acre parcel of land from Westmoreland County to use to benefit senior citizens and recreational development.
Commissioner John Lorenzo said he has been in discussions with the county regarding the site along Timms Lane across from the remote control airplane field at Cedar Creek Park.
“They said there were 28 acres they weren’t going to develop,” Lorenzo said. “They acquired that through a grant and they need to check whether they can give it to us or if they have to lease it to us.”
Lorenzo said the parcel was acquired through a state grant from the Department of Community and Economic Development and must be utilized for recreation.
“It would have to be allocated for a senior center and maybe two soccer fields, We would take over Timms Lane and make a connector road from the DiVirgilio Sports Complex and maybe some other activities for seniors could be built around it,” Lorenzo said.
