Rostraver updating comprehensive plan

Why do people live in Rostraver Township?
That’s the central question consultant Denny Puko presents to the Rostraver Township commissioners as they update their comprehensive plan.
“It’s been six months since I met with you and we discussed the comprehensive plan in January. We had some momentum at that time which we lost,” Puko said to the commissioners Wednesday during their work session. “I want to review the key goals and objectives before we draft a plan.”
Puko reviewed both the 2008 plan and goals for the plan update. Puko said that projections of a declining population are of concern.
“Traditionally, if you provide jobs in a municipality, you will retain population,” Puko said.
However, Rostraver has a different dynamic, Puko said, with 4,400 township residents working outside the township and 500 working in the municipality.
“More Rostraver residents work in the City of Pittsburgh than in the township,” Puko said.
