The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission last week announced eight video-conference/telephone hearings that will be held in August to gather public input on rate increases proposed by Pennsylvania-American Water Company.
The PUC said the requests from PAWC’s Wastewater Division would impact 2.3 million people in 37 Pennsylvania counties, including in Mon Valley municipalities such as Dravosburg, Forward Township, Glassport, Liberty Borough, Jefferson Hills, McKeesport, Port Vue, Versailles and others that are customers of its water and/or wastewater services.
On April 29, PA American filed a request to adjust its water and wastewater rates over a two-year period following “an extensive review of the investment needed to provide continued safe and reliable service,” the Mechanicsburg-based company said.
As part of the rate request, the company proposed enhancements to its customer financial assistance program to further help water and wastewater customers in greatest need.
On June 12, the PUC voted 4-0 to investigate PAWC’s requests for multi-year rate increases in its water and wastewater rates.
