McKeesport Area School District students will head back to school six days later than expected.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Holtzman has announced the first day of school for students has been moved to Aug. 26.
The announcement came through a video released on YouTube explaining the options being presented to the school board for consideration in regard to reopening schools. This is the third video discussing reopening that Holtzman has released.
The district is considering three fall 2020 reopening plans.
“Like many of you I’m eager to return to normalcy, but the new normal may not be what we expected it to be last year when school ended in approximately March,” Holtzman said. “We may never see schools look the same as they did at that time.”
He is hoping to have schools open five days a week.
Students and staff will be required to wear masks and will practice social distancing while in school buildings no matter which plan is chosen. Other protective equipment is also being installed.
“As we move forward, masking still continues to be a priority and does not become an option. It is a non-negotiable issue,” he said.
