When Chad Carroto looks down his bench, there isn’t a single player he doesn’t trust with the game on the line.

There might not be anyone he trusts more, however, than senior Emily Venick.

That’s why, with 11.5 seconds remaining in Wednesday night’s game against Edward Jones, Carroto was confident as his veteran stepped to the line in a 62-62 game.

That confidence soon turned to relief as Venick hit the first of two foul shots to give Monessen Florist a late lead in what would turn out to be a 63-62 triumph over Edward Jones in Mon Valley Independent Summer Basketball League girls division play at Marx’s Court Time Sports Center in Elizabeth Township.

“In a perfect world, that’s who I want at the line shooting those shots,” Carroto said of the Trinity guard. “We battled back and we got her into that position. I told her this was her moment and to just make it happen, and sure enough, she did it.”
