Joseph R. “Smokey” Anderson Sr., 71, of Monongahela, Carroll Township, died Sunday, July 19, 2020, in his home, surrounded by his family. Born Feb. 23, 1949, in Monongahela, he was the son of the late Clyde R. and Emma P. Richard Anderson. He worked at the former Power Piping in Donora as a crane operator until his retirement. Smokey served three years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as an MP. A member of the Church of the Nazarene in Monongahela, he loved watching football, but most of all was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Surviving are his wife, Wannitia Hill Anderson, whom he married May 14, 1998; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Jr. and Jodie Anderson of New Eagle; a daughter, Kelli Parasolick of Monongahela; seven grandchildren, Joseph III, Ty and Luke Anderson and Dylan, Travis, Devin and Caitlin Parasolick; two great-grandchildren, Emmelyn and Alice Parasolick; four sisters, Ruthann “Ruth” Williams of Elizabeth, Rose Marie “Sissy” Barna of Donora, Bernadine “Butterball” Haney of Monongahela and Donna Jean “Tootie” Dibatista of McKeesport; a niece, Shelly and husband Jerry Schwab of Donora; a sister-in-law, Beth Jennion of New Eagle; three great-nieces and a great-nephew, Alexa Schwab and MJ, Star and David Jennion; and his dog, Hachiko. Preceding him in death was an infant granddaughter, Kaylee Parasolick; four brothers, Donald A. “Don”, Harry L. “Butch”, Kenneth R. “Buddy” and James R. “Jimmy” Anderson; and two sisters, Mary Ann “Jitter” Kisner and Victoria H. “Vickie” Whitamyer. At Smokey’s request, there will be no public services. The MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., 724-258-6767 was in charge of the arrangements.
