The start of the Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Each year, the festival turns a West Newton field into a magical kingdom, attracting thousands of visitors over a six-week period.

This year’s festival was set to open Aug. 22 and run Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 27, along with Labor Day.

The medieval amusement park features entertainment, games, rides and food for all ages.

On Tuesday, officials announced via social media that opening day would be delayed because of concerns of the pandemic.

“The safety and well-being of our patrons, crafters, entertainers and staff remains our top priority,” the post stated. “Therefore, in view of the current situation and in line with the direction provided by government officials, the opening of The Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival 2020 season is temporarily delayed.”

Officials said opening day is now set for Oct. 3.

An event line-up and schedule of 2020 events has not been released.
