Support offered to MMVTA

North Charleroi agreed Monday to join forces with other Mon Valley communities to offer support to the Mid-Mon Valley Transit Authority in hopes of helping the company secure funding from Washington County.

Council agreed to send a letter to Washington County commissioners in support of the MMVTA and its request for funding and support from the county.

The steering committee addressed the MMVTA board during a meeting in June about the issue.

Board member Devlin Fisher, who sits on the committee, said Washington County does not provide operational funding to the transit authority, but gives more than $130,000 annually to Freedom Transit.

Attempts to talk directly or through letters to the commissioners have fallen on deaf ears until recently, when one letter was responded to, North Charleroi President Carrie Zeletski said.

Communities who participate in the transit authority have been asked to send letters of support, and North Charleroi is the latest to jump on board.
