The Mon Valley Sewage Authority held a special meeting Monday to discuss financing for three upcoming capital improvement projects.
According to the authority’s solicitor, Aaron Bialon, three projects are in the works:
• An air blower improvement project, which includes an estimated $1.25 million upgrade to blowers at the Donora-based plant. The project is currently being prepared for bidding with the authority’s engineer, Jason McBride of the Pittsburgh-based engineering firm Wade Trim.
• Bialon said the authority is preparing to finish DEP-mandated improvements, which includes a $6 million installation of an equalization tank at the plant. The improvements have taken place over the past 12 to 13 years, and Bialon said they should be finished within the next month or so.
• Bialon said the authority is looking to complete a cleaning of the authority’s portion of the area’s sewage collection lines, which takes place every five years.
Bialon said the authority passed a resolution that stated borrowing for the projects is not to exceed $6 million, but he expects borrowing to come in at $4.5 million to $5.2 million.
