Pleasant Hills forced to cancel Community Day

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced another cancellation.

The borough of Pleasant Hills announced earlier this week it has canceled its annual Community Day event, originally scheduled for Aug. 8.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic and numerous cancellations of other similar events, borough officials were hopeful the event would be held as scheduled.

“We are devastated to share this news with you,” a statement on the Pleasant Hills website said. “The 2020 Pleasant Hills Community Day is a huge part of our community, and it is truly heart breaking that we must cancel this event that was due to take place August 8, 2020.

“We know this will come as an enormous disappointment, not only to you the residents but also the Community Day planning committee and Borough Council. This is not a decision that was taken lightly and there are two overriding concerns that have caused us to make this decision at this time.”

“Without clear guidance on if or when the restrictions will be lifted, we must assume that they will still be in place on the date of our event — making it impossible to hold,” the statement continued.

“Second, our primary concern is and has always been the responsibility to do our part in helping to protect our residents, employees and first responders. With the numbers in COVID-19 cases increasing so rapidly, we cannot, in good conscience, move forward with this event.”
