Eleanor J. Merando – Monessen

Eleanor J. Merando, 92, of Monessen, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2020, surrounded by her family at her daughter’s home in Jefferson Hills. She was born on Nov. 8, 1927, in Donora, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Brody. She was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Church in Monessen. Eleanor was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She especially loved cooking, baking and decorating for the holidays and took special care to make each one memorable. She was an avid Pittsburgh Penguins fan and was able to attend many games over the years, always in her Sidney Crosby jersey. Eleanor loved to travel and enjoyed a number of vacations with her family. One of her favorite destinations was Las Vegas, where she experienced many memorable shows and a few lucky streaks. Eleanor loved dining out and always looked forward to trying out new restaurants. She also enjoyed the theater and was able to attend many Broadway productions in the Pittsburgh area. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Anthony A. “Pasta” Merando; a brother, Jackson Brody; and four sisters, Ann Pavlik, Helen LaValle, Pauline Stellato and Margaret Moreau. She was a last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Candy Merando and Wayne Toth of Jefferson Hills; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 19, in DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC. AND CREMATION SERVICES, 441 Reed Ave., Monessen. Due to the Covid-19 mandate, only 25 people will be permitted in the funeral home at one time. Masks are required and social distancing must be practiced. Services will will be held Monday, July 20, beginning with a 9:30 a.m. blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass with the Rev. Michael J. Crookston officiating. Entombment will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery Mausoleum. Condolences accepted for the family at www.dalfonso-billick.com.
