Elite Physical Therapy and head coach Vada Epps picked up their first win of the season Tuesday night by toppling Campy’s Pizza, 73-70, in Mon Valley Independent Summer Basketball League boys division action at Marx’s Court Time Sports Center in Elizabeth Township.
Epps’ son, South Allegheny sophomore Bryce Epps, played a key role in his team’s victory, pouring in 30 points, dishing out six assists and playing exceptional on ball defense, racking up several steals.
“As a father, I try to explain to him to work hard, and that there is always gonna be someone better but the more work you put in, the more success you’ll have,” said Epps. “He’s tenacious and he has that dog mentality. He can be a facilitator and take the game over if he wants to. I want to see him develop into a better basketball player. As a father, I’m proud and as a coach, we’ll be back in the gym in 20 minutes, that’s just how he is.”
Epps kicked off the scoring for EPT (1-2), scoring its first five points and assisting on the next four. Campy’s (1-2) didn’t back down, however, as the two squads traded buckets and found themselves knotted up at 19-19 with 8:30 remaining in the first half.
