Major K. Corley, 73, of Monessen, died Monday, July 13, 2020, in Monongahela Valley Hospital. He was born on March 21, 1947, in North Charleroi, the son of the late Major F. and Beatrice Jackson Corley. Major was a 1965 graduate of Monessen High School and received his associates degree from Penn Technical Institute. He was a member of Wayman-Quinn Chapel AME, Mon Valley NAACP and the Elks Okay Lodge No. 697 in Monessen. “Tuffy” worked for GE for a period of time before becoming a field enforcement inspector for the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue. Following his retirement, he worked for Monessen School District as a hall monitor. Tuffy was the Monessen High School girls basketball head coach from 1987 to 2010. He then served as an assistant coach for the boys basketball team, only to return as the girls head coach from 2016 to 2018. During his 25-year head coaching career, his teams won a state championship, three WPIAL titles and 13 section championships. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Noryne J. Bronson Corley; daughter, Nadine J. “Peachie” (Russell) Tyree; son, Moylan (Vanessa) Turner; three sisters, Mary Margaret Brown, Cynthia Woodson and Hortense “Teenie” Maddox; grandchildren, Jakki, Trae, Jasmine, Jameer and Jayden; great- grandchildren, Izaiah, Noah, Aalia and Jossa; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon, Friday, July 17, at Christian Life Ministries, 1201 Patton Ave., Monessen. Funeral services will be held at noon with the Rev. Jack Howell delivering the eulogy. He will be laid to rest in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The family asks everyone attending the viewing and services to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
