5 area Eagle Scouts honored

Five Eagle Scouts who live in the South Allegheny School District were honored Sunday for their many years of community service and hard work in Boy Scouts of America programs.

Port Vue Boy Scouts Troop 53 members James Teti, Chase Nicomatti and Kenneth Pierce Jr., all of Port Vue, and Kevin Kupecz of Liberty Borough participated in their Eagle Award pinning ceremony at Lincoln Boro Volunteer Fire Company’s social hall.

A fifth Eagle Scout, Anthony Geffert of Port Vue, was also recognized, but was not present because he was on vacation with his family.

Before accepting their laurels, the young men enjoyed a dinner with family, friends, fellow Scouts, Scout Master Kenneth Pierce Sr., Scoutmaster Assistant Ronald Cathell and Scouting Committee Chair Danielle Teti.

While breaking bread and watching a photo slide show projected on the wall featuring the many events, activities and service projects the Scouts took part in over the years, the Port Vue Eagle Scouts reflected on the years they spent together climbing their way through the scouting ranks.

They recalled participating in Pinewood Derbys, taking camping trips where they practiced their archery, canoing and other skills, fundraising at hot dog roasts, working together to earn merit badges, doing community service projects together and more.

Each of the Eagle Award recipients completed an Eagle Scout Service Project within the last year to earn the highest rank a Boy Scout can achieve.

For his project, Nicomatti, with help from fellow Boy Scouts and his friends, built an entranceway to the walking trail at Cindy’s Memorial Bark Park in Port Vue. Managing the project, Nicomatti and his helpers installed and painted fencing, flower beds and boxes, did other landscaping work and installed a bright and colorful sign.
