A young man expressed interest in cleaning up Donner Park two Saturdays a month and taking a step toward an improved Donora at council’s meeting Thursday.

Montell Carlock, a college sophomore, said he walked to Donner Park about three weeks ago and noticed trash in the park.

“I’m going to start, twice a month on Saturdays, and volunteer to clean up the park,” Carlock said.

He encouraged council members, firefighters, police officers and all members of the community to “come together and join hands” on such a project to be able to take pride in the town and its people.

Carlock asked council if there was anything they could think of that he could help them with and council President Mike McDowell said he applauded his efforts.

McDowell said the borough’s street department has a small staff and any help Carlock could offer would be great. Even just if he could point out something that might be missed while the small crew is busy with other things, that would be helpful, McDowell said.

The crowd applauded Carlock.
