Community Days has been postponed in Charleroi.

Council unanimously voted Wednesday to push the event back to the fall — if coronavirus restrictions are lifted.

The recreation committee made the recommendation to postpone the event.

The event is a decades-long tradition in the Magic City and each year brings residents from the tri-state area to the borough for food, fun, games and entertainment downtown.

The borough had not spent any money on the event.

Bands booked to play were paid for by grants and the sound system was being donated. Vendors had not yet been confirmed.

Each year, the summer festival attracts thousands of people to the borough.

Council wanted a smaller event this year by using local vendors, nonprofits, churches and businesses.

President Mark Alterici said the borough hopes to reschedule the event for October.

“Not much is going on in October as far as social calendars go,” he said.

Councilwoman Heidi Cramer said if restrictions are lifted, it would serve as an Octoberfest type of festival.

“We did not want to have to push this back, but unfortunately it is what’s going on,” she said. “I mean everyone is canceling everything around.”
