Pleasant Hills will hold its annual Community Day celebration Aug. 8 at Mowry Park, although event officials are keeping an eye on how the coronavirus pandemic affects events and gatherings later this summer.

“Planning is still under way to hold the event as scheduled. However, the health and safety of all residents is the top priority,” Community Day Chairman Matthew Micelli said in a statement. “The planning committee, along with borough council, continues to monitor the pandemic and its implications on the event. Should the event be canceled, residents will be notified through a variety of communications channels; email blast, website, Facebook, etc.”

Current plans call for the event to feature a parade that starts at 11 a.m., with the line-up at 9:30 a.m.

The parade route will begin on Audrey Drive and will proceed down Old Clairton Road to Gill Hall Road, ending at Mowry Park. The parade route is approximately 1.1 miles.

There will be no parking allowed in the lots or on the streets in the line-up area unless that vehicle is in the parade.

The day will also feature vendors and a fireworks display.

Pleasant Hills Mayor William Trimbath said the annual event has occurred for more than 30 years.

“There’s a desire to return things back to normal, and this is a way to get back to normal if the health situation permits it,” he said. “It’s not out of the possibility it could be postponed or outright canceled and we may do things differently than in the past. We’re cautiously optimistic.”
