A Washington County children’s advocacy organization will host a fundraiser this week.

Court Appointed Special Advocates, known as CASA, advocate for children in the juvenile court system who have suffered abuse and neglect. They are trained volunteers who help determine living arrangements that are in the child’s best interest.

At 6 p.m. Thursday, the group will host a “Create for a Cause” fundraiser at Off The Wall Arts in Charleroi.

Tickets are $40 per person and include materials and instruction.

Participants will create wooden welcome signs for their homes and can add a unique touch with their family name, flowers, bottles and gems.

Tickets for the event must be reserved in advance by going to www.facebook.com/casaeashingtoncounty/ or by mailing a check to CASA for Kids, Washington, 382 W. Chestnut St. Suite 108B, Washington, PA 15301.

Frozen wine slushies from the Washington Winery Charleroi, located inside Off the Wall Arts, will be available for purchase during the event with a portion of the proceeds benefiting CASA for Kids.

Wine by the bottle will also be available to purchase, and attendees may bring their own snacks.

CASA For Kids marketing/fundraising Manager Gina Lynn said the fundraiser is important in spreading the organization’s message.

“Holding this event at Off the Wall Arts in Charleroi will allow us to not only raise needed funds to support our mission, but just as importantly, it will give us an opportunity to raise awareness about our organization to potential volunteers in Mon Valley communities,” Lynn said. “We have a number of children in this area who are waiting for a CASA volunteer and we are hopeful to grow our reach to the Mon Valley with a training class later this year.”
