Businesses unite for pool giveaway

Two New Eagle businesses are going “blue” to make sure one Mon Valley family has a cool summer.

With the COVID-19 pandemic putting a halt to a lot of summer plans, canceling vacations, closing amusement parks and causing restrictions for pools, restaurants and other entertainment, the Pizza Station and Behanna Auto & Tire are hoping to save summer for one lucky family.

The businesses have teamed up to purchase — and give away — a pool next week.

With help from another New Eagle business, R&R Pools, the winner will receive a 15-foot above-ground swimming pool, with the ladder, installation and accessories all included.

Water and pool chemicals are not included in the prize.

While many businesses took to social media for “like and share” giveaways during the pandemic, now that businesses are open to the public, residents can enter the contest by filling out cards at the Pizza Station or Behanna Auto & Tire.

Residents can enter once at each location with no purchase necessary.

Two additional entries can be earned by placing a pick-up order for at least $10 at The Pizza Station or receiving any service at Behanna Auto & Tire.

Pizza Station owner Jimmie Coulter said the businesses wanted to do something “big.”

“A lot of businesses give away products or TVs or electronics,” he said. “But we got to thinking about it and we wanted to give a family a really great summer in a big way.”

The two businesses split the cost of the pool, paying for installation, the filter, liner and ladder.

As of Friday, about 150 people have entered.

“A lot of people are really excited because this is something they have wanted, but have not been able to afford to do for their families,” he said.
