Forward Twp. to benefit from gas well impact fee

Forward Township will see a greater allotment from the state’s 2019 Act 13 gas well impact fee disbursement than any other Allegheny County municipality.

The township will get $241,936, which is down from last year’s $296,544 allocation, according to reports from the Public Utilities Commission.

The PUC is the agency that collects and tracks the money natural gas producers must pay in impact fees, also known as “the unconventional gas well fee.”

Early next month, Pennsylvania will distribute $109 million to county and municipal governments most impacted by drilling.

The Marcellus Legacy Fund will get $72.1 million to pay for environmental, highway, water and sewer projects, to rehab greenways and other projects throughout the state.

State agencies will get $18.3 million.

This year’s distribution is approximately $42.6 million lower than last year, driven primarily by the average price of natural gas in 2019 being lower than it was in 2018, the PUC said.
