Funeral arrangements have been announced for Dale Provins Jr., the Jefferson Hills police officer who died Saturday after being involved in a two-car collision while on duty June 3.
Public visitation will take place from noon to 7 p.m. Friday at Jefferson Hills Municipal Complex, rear entrance, 925 Old Clairton Road. Social distancing and masks are encouraged for all visitors.
A gravesite service for the public is set for Saturday morning at Round Hill Cemetery, 2131 Round Hill Church Road in Elizabeth. Attendees are asked to report directly to the cemetery no later than 11 a.m. A small procession will accompany Officer Provins from the funeral home to the cemetery.
Provins, 50, died from injuries sustained in an on-duty vehicle crash in the 200 block of Old Clairton Road in Jefferson Hills.
An oncoming vehicle crossed the center line and struck Provins’ patrol vehicle head-on. Provins was flown to a hospital in Pittsburgh where he passed away 10 days later.
The driver of the other vehicle also remains hospitalized, and police did not give any information regarding his condition.
Because the crash involved a Jefferson Hills police unit, the South Hills Area Council of Governments crash reconstruction team is investigating.
Provins was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He served with the Jefferson Hills Borough Police Department for 15 years and was a second-generation police officer. He is survived by his daughter, fiancée, parents and siblings.
