A Jefferson Hills police officer injured in a crash earlier this month has died.

According to a release posted on the Jefferson Hills Borough Police Department Facebook page, officer Dale Provins died Saturday due to extensive injuries sustained during a two-vehicle collision June 3.

“The Jefferson Hills Police Department mourns the loss of Officer Provins,” the release states. “Dale’s colleagues in the Department and in the Borough admired him, his sense of humor and kindness. Losing one of our own is extremely difficult. Our condolences go out to Dale’s family and friends; we share in their grief.”

Provins, a 15-year veteran of the Jefferson Hills Police Department, was involved in a rollover crash at approximately 8:15 a.m. along the 200 block of Old Clairton Road in Jefferson Hills June 3, according to borough police.

A preliminary investigation of the incident revealed it was a head-on collision with a civilian vehicle traveling southbound and Provins’ vehicle traveling northbound. The point of impact for the crash was in the northbound lane.

The crash is still under investigation by the South Hills Area Council of Government’s crash reconstruction team.
