Five Star Trail Poker Run set in Westmoreland County

An annual fundraising event for Westmoreland County trails will take a do-it-yourself approach this year.

Residents can choose to bike, walk, jog or run in the 21st annual Five Star Trail Poker Run on three Saturday mornings: July 18, Aug. 15 or Sept. 19.

Initial registration is $20 and includes an athletic performance T-shirt. It will cost an additional $5 to participate in other Saturday runs.

A pre-registration form is available online and can be mailed in, but residents can also register in person the day of the event at the Huff Avenue Access Area in South Greensburg from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

There will not be top “winners” this year. Runners, walkers and bikers can start and finish the run where they choose — and stop to take a selfie along the way for the 2020 Poker Run album.
Instead of collecting cards to develop their “hands,” door prizes will be drawn the week after each run.

Email a photo to ljones@co.westmoreland.pa.us for additional chances to win door prizes.

Business sponsorships are available: Platinum Event Sponsor for $500, Gold Community Business Sponsor for $300, Silver Trailside Sign Sponsor for $100 and Bronze Prize Sponsor.

To become an event sponsor, call 724-830-3962.

Proceeds benefit the maintenance and upkeep of the Five Star Trail that stretches from Lynch Field in Greensburg to Youngwood and the Westmoreland Heritage Trail, that runs nine miles from Saltsburg to Delmont.
