The Washington County Agricultural Fair has been canceled.
Despite restrictions being lifted in western Pennsylvania, the Washington County Fair Board voted to cancel the 2020 Agricultural Fair this week — a decision that will impact thousands of stakeholders including residents, 4-H clubs, FFA members, vendors, volunteers and sponsors.
The event dates back to 1798 when the Morganza Fair, the first fair in the region, was held featuring sheep and cattle.
The decision to interrupt the 222-year old tradition wasn’t easy, explained fair board President Todd Richards.
“This decision was not made lightly, but considering the Covid-19 pandemic concerns and the safety of our many stakeholders we believe it is the right decision,” he said.
