Alan Armand Alvarez, 77, of Mars, Adams Township, formerly of Donora, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2020, at Paramount Memory Care, Mars. Born in Monongahela on Feb. 21, 1943, he was a son of the late Gavino and Ereda Parenti Alvarez. A veteran, Alan served with the National Guard and was a member of Dutilh United Methodist Church in Cranberry. Alan lived in Donora for 56 years. His work as a blast furnace engineer took him and his wife Nancy to Hamilton, Ohio, for seven years. Alan and Nancy moved to Mars, Adams Township, to continue his career until his retirement in 2009. Alan served on Donora Council from 1972 to 1979 and was council president during the last two years of his term. He also held many local, county and state appointed positions. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mrs. Dominick Arlyne Vince; and his in-laws, John and Jane Morgan Nemish. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Nancy Jane Nemish Alvarez; two daughters, Laurie (Douglas) Herold of Mars, Adams Township, and Holly (Brett) Holmes of Tomball, Texas; two granddaughters, Morgan Jane and Lindsay Joy Herold, both of Mars, Adams Township; and four grandsons, Ayden Alan and Brennan Wood and Mason and Logan Holmes of Tomball, Texas. Arrangements have been entrusted to ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Extension, Carroll Township/Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2020. A service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2020, with the Rev. Jim Gascoine officiating. Interment will follow at Monongahela Cemetery. In order to be compliant with the new “norm” of COVID-19 restrictions, attendance will be limited to 25 people at any given time inside the funeral home. Guests are asked to obey social distancing guidelines and personal protection guidelines, which include masks within the funeral home.
