The Belle Vernon Area School Board Monday awarded a paving contract to Piccolomini Contractors, but with a scaled-back project from when bids were opened last month.
Piccolomini was the low bidder for the paving contract last month. But on the advice of Solicitor Ira Weiss, the bid was rejected as being non-responsive because it didn’t include information about subcontractors as required.
While there had been numerous bidders last month, Piccolomini was the only company to submit a bid for Monday’s meeting. The base bid came to $365,707.
“It’s higher than the first bid by about $54,000,” said district Superintendent Dr. Michele Dowell.
The base bid involves paving the parking lots at Marion Elementary and the middle school as well as finishing the teachers’ parking lot at the high school and a parking lot at the corner of Crest Avenue.
“There will be a concrete slab poured outside the auditorium so students can walk between buildings and there will be cutouts at the high school circle for additional parking,” Dowell said.
