U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey visited Washington County Friday to help the county enter into the green phase as coronavirus restrictions continue to be lifted.
Flanked by fellow Republicans U.S. Rep. Guy Reschenthaler, state Rep. Natalie Mihalik and Washington County commissioners Diana Irey Vaughan and Nick Sherman, Toomey visited Bartram House Bakery in Canonsburg to provide an update on his plans to reopen the state.
“It’s a great day, it’s a green day,” said Bartram House Bakery owner Tim Warne as he introduced Toomey. “We need to relearn how to be normal. We need our customers back and we need them to feel safe.”
Toomey criticized Gov. Tom Wolf’s decision in March to issue a stay-at-home order that closed state schools and non-essential businesses.
“We learned we are not going to overwhelm our hospitals,” Toomey said. “The virus was concentrated on nursing homes. We should do everything possible to protect those people. We can get back to living our normal lives. Things are moving in the right direction.”
