Power outages were reported throughout a few Mon Valley communities due to storms that swept through the area Thursday evening.

Nearly 1,700 customers in Washington County were without power as of 7 p.m., according to West Penn Power.

Out of the 627 customers West Penn Power serves in Speers borough, 617 were affected by power outages caused by a tree and power lines going down on State Route 88 in Speers.

Charleroi Fire Department posted a photo of the downed tree and power lines on its Facebook page just before 6 p.m. The department urged travelers to avoid the area.

As of 7 p.m., more than 200 customers in Washington County communities such as Dunlevy and Fallowfield Township were without power. In Twilight, 124 customers reported outages.

As of 11:35 p.m., 607 customers in Washington County were affected by outages, including 284 in Speers, 77 in Dunlevy, 50 in Twilight, 11 in Charleroi, and seven in California and Fallowfield.

West Penn Power expects service to be resumed in all communities by 4 p.m. today.
