Roscoe VFC to hold ‘drive-in’ cash bash

The Roscoe Volunteer Fire Company is finding new ways to raise money under coronavirus restrictions.

The fire company will hold its first-ever outdoor “drive-in” cash bash next week.

“Our fire company had to be creative and stay ahead of the curve in order to financially survive,” financial secretary Josh Pollock said.

Fire departments throughout the Valley have been forced to survive without large fundraisers that normally help them stay afloat. Many of those events have been postponed or canceled entirely, but bills are still coming in.

The Roscoe VFC has seen 14 fundraisers — and a weekly Friday night bingo — canceled during the pandemic.

Like other departments throughout the Valley, the Roscoe VFC began to hold drive-thru food sales, but realized Mon Valley residents were looking for something else — gambling.

“We started holding food sales; however, we realized that our regular clientele that attended our bingos still had the itch to gamble,” Pollock said. “There are a lot of people who are used to getting out of the house, attending bingos, going to casinos and attending cash bashes. However, all of that has stopped.”

To help residents experience things they have been missing out on for the past several weeks, the Roscoe VFC teamed up with the Roscoe Sportsmen’s Association for an outdoor cash bash and ticket frenzy.

“The idea for this event came from a heavy demand from our guests to provide a safe environment where they could gamble, and hopefully win, in a safe environment,” Pollock said.

The cash bash is set for Wednesday at the Roscoe Sportsmen’s Club, located at 1069 Sloan Lane in Coal Center.

Lots open at 4 p.m. and drawings start at 5 p.m. Tickets are $40 per person and include four cash bash numbers and dinner.
