Ringgold’s Jacob Duncan will continue wrestling close to home in college after recently announcing his commitment to Washington & Jefferson.
Duncan, who finished with a career record of 100-46 for the Rams, chose wrestling for the Presidents in the Presidents Athletic Conference over Thiel and UNC-Pembroke.
“The biggest reason I went to W&J is because I’m a very family-oriented person and wanted to stay close to family and friends. They also have great facilities, staff and education there.”
Duncan said he plans to major in secondary education with a concentration in mathematics.
Duncan will join a Presidents squad that went 9-7 overall in dual meets last season under head coach Tommy Prairie, who thinks Duncan fits with the team’s mentality.
“When I talked to coach Prairie, we talked about my offensive wrestling style and how I’m always looking for a pin. That’s something that really matched W&J’s style,” Duncan said.
Duncan, who was also the quarterback on the Rams football team, said he chose to wrestle in college because that’s where he sees a brighter future.
“Football was fun and all, but I knew that I had my most success on the mat and had a bigger future wrestling,” he said.
While he’s aggressive when he steps on to the mat, there’s still some things he wants to work on.
“My strength is my mat wrestling, especially on top,” he added. “I need to put in the most work in the neutral position, though.”
