Charleroi Regional police are investigating an alleged hit-and-run crash Thursday night on the 700 block of Lincoln Avenue (Route 88) in North Charleroi.
Lock 4 Volunteer Fire Department and Charleroi Regional police officers were dispatched shortly after 6 p.m. to the scene of the two-vehicle accident in front of Professional Plaza and left the busy street between Sixth and Seventh streets closed in both directions for several hours.
No injuries were reported, according to Lock 4 fire Chief Fred Schwalb, who said he could not offer any further information about the crash and deferred questions to Charleroi Regional police.
Lt. Mike Polinski said Friday that the officers who handled the crash were extremely busy responding to several incidents on Thursday night and that an incident report is expected to be filed by today.
Carina Cervone of Monongahela said she was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Sixth Street and Lincoln Avenue in her black Dodge Dart when she noticed the driver of a dark blue Cadillac sedan approaching the intersection in an erratic manner.
“This guy hit me,” she said. “He started driving on the sidewalk and weaving in and out of traffic.”
She said the light turned green and she started to go.
“I heard a bunch of screeching so I kind of stopped again,” she said. “I’m driving, he came on my right side and ran into me. He knocked my whole tire off.”
