Irene Katsuleres Papantonakis – Monessen

Irene Katsuleres Papantonakis, 91, of Monessen, passed away on May 18, 2020, in Hallsworth House. She was born on July 17, 1928, to the late Emanuel and Ann Huzela Katsuleres in Monessen. Irene was a lifelong faithful parishioner of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, where she served as a greeter, assisted with the church bulletin and was a past president of the Philoptochos Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Papantonakis; and brothers, George and Nick Katsuleres. She is survived by her son, Pete Papantonakis of Monongahela; and her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Martin Kostelnik of South Park; four granddaughters, Marie (Jim) Howrylak of Bethel Park, Alexa Kostelnik of Bethel Park, Kari (Dean) Heffernan of Belle Vernon and Lexi Papantonakis of Canonsburg; one grandson, Michael Kostelnik of Florida; her great grandchildren, Nicholas, Sophia and Alex Howrylak and Adalyn Heffernan; goddaughter, Marina Agrafiotis; and a godson, Jeffrey Gianiodis. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, private visitation was held at ROBERT A. BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC., along with a private funeral service in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church with the Rev. Father Meletios Gianniodis and Deacon Bill Leogas officiating. Burial was in Grandview Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Spyridon Church.
