Joseph C. Strinich – Elizabeth
Joseph C. Strinich, 96, of Elizabeth, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2020, at home. He was a member of St. Michael Parish in Elizabeth Township and a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union. A Duquesne University graduate majoring in math and science, he was a 20-year employee of Kaufmann’s after he retired as a roller at U.S. Steel Clairton Works for more than 40 years. An Army veteran of World War II where he flew a glider, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, European African Medal, Eastern Campaign Medal with six Bronze Stars, and fought at Normandy, Battle of the Bulge, and Omaha Beach. He and his troops were responsible for the fall of Eagle’s Nest (Hitler’s house). Born May 19, 1923, in Clairton, he was a son of the late Luka and Manda Borich Strinich and husband of his beloved wife of 68 years, Catherine Gatto Strinich, who died July 6, 2019. He is survived by daughters, Catherine (Jim) Lowery of Peter’s Township and Denise (Chuck) Longo-Hendzel of Elizabeth; beloved grandpet, Opie; also, numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by son, Louis Strinich; sisters, Katie Strinich, Olga Kaylo and Ann Weinberger; and brothers, Pete “Simon”, Mark and Matthew “Vic” Strinich.
