Former Pleasant Hills resident and stained glass mosaic artist Lisa Valentino is taking her work to the streets.
Literally.
Valentino, a 1983 Thomas Jefferson High School graduate now living in Pittsburgh’s East End, is celebrating the five-year anniversary of her Walk All The Streets Of Pittsburgh project, also known as WATSOP, where Valentino has pledged to walk every street, or more accurately 90 neighborhoods and more than 1,000 miles, of the Steel City.
She started the project in May 2015, and it has taken on a life of its own, with Valentino documenting her adventures on her website and many media outlets following her footsteps.
“I wondered if I could accomplish this in one year, and I suppose if I did not much else that first year, perhaps I could have, but there have been many times when I never wanted this project to end,” Valentino said. “I suppose when it is done, when I have walked every street in each of the 90 Pittsburgh neighborhoods, I could expand a little further out and walk those neighborhoods, but as I approach the end of five years, I’m more excited to get back to the neighborhoods I finished early in this quest.
“They have changed quite a bit and I’m sure there are many new things to discover closer to home.”
