Ringgold head hockey coach Rick Kalinowski knew it was coming.

But it didn’t make the official announcement any easier to hear.

The PIHL announced Sunday that the remainder of the season has been canceled, including all unplayed varsity playoff games.

Those games included the PIHL Class B championship game between Ringgold and Carrick, and the PIHL Class A championship game between Thomas Jefferson and Indiana.

“The PIHL did everything they possibly could to keep the season alive and we are thankful for their efforts,” said Kalinowski, whose team was in search of its second straight championship after winning the Division 2 crown last season.

“I want to thank the coaches and players for their hard work and dedication throughout the season. Our season started back in August with dry land and ice camp. Now our season is coming to an abrupt end that is out of our control.

“There is not a doubt in my mind that they possessed the talent and teamwork needed to bring the championship home for the second year in a row.”
