Anne Lopinsky – Belle Vernon

By obits

Anne Lopinsky, 74, of Belle Vernon, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2020, with her family by her side. Anne was born on Sept. 10, 1945, in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Francis and Margaret Kilroy Gorham and spent many years in the Pittsburgh area before moving to Belle Vernon in 1980 with her family. In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her two sisters, Peggy and Mary Gorham; her son, Thomas Schlegel; her daughter-in-law, Robin (Rose) Schlegel; and grandson, Robert Schlegel. Anne was working and raising her five children, Thomas, Jeffrey, Marcie, Julie and Kristie in the Pittsburgh area when she met and married Jeffrey Lopinsky in 1980. The family relocated and set down roots in the Belle Vernon area in 1980, eventually owning and operating Just A Tavern, Crazy Train Bar-B-Que, Nebby’s N At and working many other concessions and catering events like weddings, graduations and the bike run. Anne’s priorities were family, pets and sports/outdoors. Nothing made Anne happier than watching her family grow and mature over the years, and she never needed anything fancy or formal to have a good time as long as she was surrounded by her family. Throughout her life, Anne was passionate about sports and an active lifestyle. Anne participated as a young girl, championed her children’s sports year round and led the formation of the first girls softball league in Brookline and girls basketball teams at St Pius X for her daughters and all the young girls looking to compete. Anne’s favorite sports team was the Steelers; she was the most optimistic fan the Steelers ever could have hoped for, win or lose. The Penguins, Pirates, NASCAR, camping and mudding in a Jeep were other favorites she enjoyed throughout her life. Anne always loved pets and later in life her dogs were primarily rescues with Weego (a greyhound) and Ellie (a Weimaraner) her latest. Survivors include her husband, Jeffrey Lopinsky of Belle Vernon; four children, Jeffrey Schlegel and wife Tracy of Bristow, Va., Marcie Schlegel of Belle Vernon, Julie Schlegel McCullough and husband Douglas of Belle Vernon; Kristie Schlegel Gabrovsek and husband Kevin of Washington Township; 11 grandchildren, AJ Yardas, Aleesha (Rathway) Haney, Nicholas Schlegel, Tyler McCullough, Sarah (McCullough) Treadwell, Emily McCullough, Christopher McCullough, Jilliann McCullough, Lindsey Gabrovsek, Justin Gabrovsek and Bradey Gabrovsek; great-grandchildren, Braylee Haney, Enslee Haney, new baby Haney, due in August, and new baby Treadwell, due in July. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and state mandate, a memorial service will be announced at a later date.  Funeral arrangements are entrusted to PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATIONS LLC, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center designated to the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center Director’s Discovery Fund in memory of Anne Lopinsky. Please extend your sympathies and condolences to the family at the funeral home’s website, www.parzynskifuneralhome.com.
