Brownsville Drive-In ready to reopen

The Brownsville Drive-In has been poised to open for the past several weeks, and got the legal go-ahead for Friday when Gov. Tom Wolf announced most of southwestern Pennsylvania will move from red to yellow coronavirus status.

Drive-in manager Charlie Perkins said social distancing restrictions will be in place to keep both those attending and those working safe.

“The kids can’t run around. It’s not going to be your normal drive-in experience; but people just want to get out of the house,” Perkins said.

Perkins said the National Association of Theater Owners had announced a few weeks ago that drive-ins would be allowed to open. That statement was retracted just 12 hours later, but it was enough to provide hope.

“When we knew they were going to go to yellow this week, we decided to book the films. We just got them confirmed (Monday),” Perkins said.
