The Community Foundation of Fayette County has received a $30,000 grant to purchase and donate masks to organizations throughout the county.

The grant was awarded by Heinz Endowments and will help the organization supply disposable three-ply facemasks to other organizations faced with protecting themselves, their patients and the clients they serve during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Heinz Endowments is a regional foundation based in Pittsburgh that was formed from the Howard Heinz Endowment, established in 1941, and the Vira I. Heinz Endowment, established in 1986.

CFFC Executive Director Renee Couser said the grant will help expand the Front Line Masks Initiative.

“We are excited and grateful to expand the impact of the initiative through this grant from The Heinz Endowments,” Couser said.

A statement from the Heinz Endowments board said the grant is part of the foundation’s mission.

“The Heinz Endowments is devoted to the mission of helping our region prosper as a vibrant center of creativity, learning and social, economic and environmental sustainability,” the statement read. “Core to our work is the vision of a just community where all are included and where everyone who calls southwestern Pennsylvania home has a real and meaningful opportunity to thrive.”

Requests for masks can be made by filling out the Front Line Mask Initiative Request Form on the CFFC website.

The CFFC is currently accepting donations for the initiative, which are tax-deductible. To donate,  go to www.cffayettepa.org or send a check, made payable to “Community Foundation of Fayette County” to 5 South Mt. Vernon Avenue, Uniontown, PA 15401.

“Front Line Mask Initiative” should be written on the memo line.

“The CFFC wishes everyone health and safety, and we extend our gratitude to those serving on the front lines of COVID-19,” Couser said.

The CFFC, based out of Uniontown, provides charitable causes with funding, awards scholarships to area students, grants to nonprofit organizations and connects applicable donors with causes.
