Traveling criminals back in Donora?

By Mon Valley Independent

Donora Police Superintendent Jim Brice is concerned his borough could be about to experience something he thought was eradicated 16 years ago — a string of thefts at the hands of traveling criminals.

Last Thursday, a man came to the door of an elderly Donora resident’s home claiming that he noticed some work that needed to be done to the house. The elderly man was talked into agreeing to the work, which Brice said really wasn’t needed.

The next day, the alleged worker returned and talked the older man into coming into the backyard to look at something on the back of his house that allegedly needed to be repaired.

Then, Brice said, someone else went in the front door, went through the resident’s belongings and stole cash.

“We went through this a few years ago,” Brice said, referring to a string of robberies orchestrated by Jozef Miller, a self-described gypsy.
