Julian W. ‘Chip’ Campbell – Valparaiso, Ind., formerly of Monessen
Julian W. “Chip” Campbell was born Feb. 20, 1933, in Monessen and passed away peacefully of natural causes on Friday, May 1, 2020, in Valparaiso, Ind. Chip was a lifelong resident of Monessen until the last couple years of his life, when he lived with his son, Mike, in Indiana. Chip proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. Chip worked for over 40 years at Pages Steel and Wire Company in Monessen as a wire drawer. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Doug Campbell; wives, Roberta Campbell and Arlene Campbell; his parents, Clarence and Agnes Campbell; sister, Anna Mae Winstone; brother, Clarence “Skinny” Campbell; granddaughter, Briann Campbell; and grandson, Aaron Gould. He is survived by daughters, Allison (Mike) Richards, Roberta Campbell, Patricia (Thomas) Gould; sons, Julian W. (Jay) Campbell, Michael W. (Lisa) Campbell; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Special thanks and love to his dear friend, Alice Russell and his daughter-in-law, Lisa, who he considered to be his daughter and who took care of him so preciously for the last two years and four months as if he was her father. Chip was a stranger to nobody; he would always tell people that he met “stay like you are and you will be a star.” He would also say to people, “You know I’m going to heaven right?” and whomever he was talking to would say “How do you know that?” and Chip would say “because I am running the elevator!” Chip was also a loyal supporter and season ticket holder for more than 50 years of his beloved Monessen Greyhounds high school football team as well as an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins fan. Chip was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He loved dogs and was a huge country music fan, there wasn’t a song he didn’t know. Chip also got the biggest kick out of his grandson, Michael, yelling downstairs to his Pap every morning “I love you Pap!” as he left for school every single day. Chip will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Rest in peace, Dad. We all love you. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will have a private graveside burial of his remains at a later date in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen. Arrangements are being handled by Rhome Funeral Home, Monessen. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Chip’s honor to VNA Hospice, 2404 Valparaiso St., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
