Elizabeth Township commissioners approved a proposal Monday for a new community notification system.
The township had been using the free Nixel service, but the township’s code and emergency management officer John Snelson said that system will no longer be available in the future.
The commissioners voted to spend up to $6,000 for Hyper Reach, a system that will send out notices to those who register. It can also be customized to send notices to public officials as needed and emergency notifications based on cell tower locations, even to those who haven’t signed up if they are in the vicinity of the designated tower.
“We can send out weather alerts and the police can send out road closures and missing persons reports,” Snelson said.
