After over a month of closures, Tim Stawovy and other golf course general managers in Pennsylvania will be back to work Friday.
Gov. Tom Wolf announced Monday that golf courses, marinas and privately owned campgrounds will be allowed to reopen at the end of the week, as long as they comply with state-issued guidelines to operate safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Local golf courses, including Cedarbrook Golf Course in Rostraver Township, have been shut down since March 20.
“It’s not to say that we would have been able to golf every day because there has been quite a bit of rain, but there were quite a few nice days in March and April, too,” said Stawovy, the general manager of Cedarbrook. “We’re happy to be open again.”
In the six weeks since it last operated, Cedarbrook has felt the effects of the coronavirus.
The grounds have still needed to be maintained and bills haven’t stopped pouring in.
“There was zero money coming in, so it was very hard,” said Stawovy, who anticipated the reopening of golf courses statewide would occur May 8.
“It will be a really good relief to finally get some income back so we can pay off some bills.”
