Remember When?: Charleroi drops MV Catholic, 5-3

Even on a bad day, Charleroi Area High’s Brock Witmyer is good.
As a result, the front-running Cougars own a two-game cushion in the WPIAL Sec. 19 baseball race.
Coming off a no-hitter against Bentworth, Witmyer gave up five hits with an uncharacteristic high five walks and uncharacteristic low six strikeouts in Charleroi’s 5-3 victory over Mon Valley Catholic Saturday at Armstrong Field in Monongahela.
The win was the Cougars’ eighth in nine section decisions and dropped the Spartans into third place at 4-3, a game behind California.
“I just couldn’t get comfortable today,” said Witmyer. “I like pitching in warm weather but this was one of those days where everything was high. I just couldn’t get the fastball over and when that happens I don’t get a lot of strikeouts.”
