Anyone hoping their youth soccer players would get an outlet later this spring just had their hopes dashed by the coronavirus pandemic.

PA West Soccer, which oversees the youth soccer organizations in the area, announced that spring leagues and competitions are being canceled.

The organization released a statement Friday morning announcing the decision.

“It’s with regret PA West Soccer has to share that we are canceling our spring competitions,” the statement reads.

“Due to the Commonwealth’s ‘Stay At Home’ directive and the unknown length of time it may take for social distancing requirements to permit gatherings that would allow us to return to play, it has been decided to cancel league play, the State Cup, the Presidents Cup, and the Open Tournament.

“In addition to the concern over requirements and limitations set forth by the various governmental agencies, the availability of fields once return to play is permitted is also uncertain.  Many member clubs rely on school district and/or municipal fields and facilities that are currently closed for the foreseeable future.”
