A slide in Elizabeth Township on Rainbow Run Road and Newton Road will be repaired soon.

PennDOT is expected to begin work on the area at 7 a.m. Monday, weather permitting.

A long-term closure will be in place during repairs.

The closure will run through late May on state Route 136 between Route 51 in Forward Township and Long Hollow Road in Elizabeth Township.

Traffic will be detoured through Route 51 and Route 201 until repairs are completed.

To fix the slide, workers will excavate the area, place rocks and repair pavement.

Gulisek Construction LLC is the prime contractor for the project.

While regular highway road and repair work is currently paused as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the slide is considered critical and been approved by the state, according to a release from PennDOT.

“This project is part of critical work that continues statewide addressing safety needs and work needed to eliminate roadway restrictions that could impede the ability for the movement of life sustaining goods and services,” District 11 spokesman Steve Cowen said.
