There’s no doubting Emily Morrissey’s passion for the sport of swimming.

She’s aimed to reach the ultimate goal of reaching the Olympics and has clearly paved out her path.

Morrissey’s first step is  accepting an appointment to swim at the U.S. Naval Academy.

The White Oak resident chose Navy over Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.

“I started with a list of about 30 schools at the beginning of the recruiting process and by the end of my visits I narrowed it down to those two,” Morrissey said.

“The top reasons for choosing (Navy) were the spirit and support the entire town of Annapolis has for the school as well as the team environment the student body embodies. They put all their efforts into the mission of the academy, which is to develop “morally, mentally and physically,” which ultimately makes for a successful career as a naval officer.”

Morrissey, the daughter of Tom and Christine Morrissey, attends Westinghouse Arts Academy Charter School as a literary arts major.

“After my sophomore year, I decided I was going to stop competing in the WPIAL and focus entirely on club swimming. Taking the time to focus on training without interruptions has made a world of difference,” she said.
