First responders and essential employees who work overnight shifts now have another late-night option for midnight snacks thanks to a Mon Valley bakery.
Valdiserri’s Bakery in North Belle Vernon began a midnight menu Wednesday to help feed those working late shifts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The bakery, established in 1903, serves a range of freshly baked breads, buns, cakes, donuts, pastries, cookies, pizzas and pepperoni rolls.
For a limited time, the bakery has launched a menu for first responders and midnight workers who might not have many dining options while on shift.
The bakery will not be opened for the extended menu and will be limited to curbside pick-up.
John Triggiani, one of the bakery’s owners organizing the effort, said the company understands the struggle workers face when working late.
“Our main goal is to help first responders and night time workers that can’t find anything open during those hours at the moment,” Triggiani said.
The limited menu offers a variety of rolls, pepperoni or ham with choice of cheese, mild sausage with choice of cheese or ground burger with bacon and choice of cheese; pepperoni or salami by the half pound; a variety of cheeses by the half pound; BBQ or slider buns; 8 or 12-inch plain or pepperoni pizzas; peanut butter brownies; lunch pies in a variety of flavors; chocolate chip or peanut butter cookies; and blueberry or chocolate chip muffins.
To pick up the same night, between 10:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m., orders must be placed by 4 p.m.
Payment must be made over the phone at the time of the order.
Employees will bring orders to individual vehicles.
The bakery has operated for 117 years, through the Spanish Flu, the Great Depression, WWI, WWII and is prepared to withstand – and help others get through the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We want to encourage everyone to continue supporting your local, mom and pop restaurants and eateries,” Triggiani said. “Most of all, support each other.
“One day this too shall pass and we will get back to some sense of normal.”
Valdiserri’s Bakery is currently open 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Currently, all orders must be placed by 2 p.m. for next-day curbside pick-ups.
Wholesale deliveries must be placed by 9 p.m. for next day delivery.
To place an order from the regular or midnight menu, call 724-929-8040.
The midnight menu and pricing is available on Valdiserri’s Bakery Facebook page.
