Frazier’s Twigg commits to Penn State Fayette

Throughout her high school career, Sierra Twigg always worked hard to achieve her goals. Whether those goals were in academics or athletics, Twigg consistently showed the dedication and drive to succeed.

Twigg, a senior at Frazier High School, will have the opportunity to meet a whole new set of challenges later this year as she has committed to continue her education and play for the women’s basketball team at Penn State Fayette.

“Because of my major, I plan to go to Fayette for two years and then two years at main campus,” Twigg explained.

Twigg plans to study veterinary medicine, which will obviously be demanding and time consuming. Still, Twigg very much wanted basketball to be a part of her college experience, and Fayette will allow her the chance to continue playing the sport she loves.

“I always wanted to keep playing basketball,” Twigg said. “The Fayette coaches came and watched me play and I just felt an emotional connection to them.”

During her high school basketball career, Twigg played for two head coaches (Ken Poling and Winston Shaulis) and she noted that she learned a lot from each of them. She also credited Frazier volleyball coach Mandy Hartman for helping her develop both as an athlete and as a person.

Twigg played basketball and volleyball for the Commodores for four years. In volleyball, the middle hitter earned all-section honors three times, All-Fayette County honors twice and she completed her volleyball career with an All-WPIAL honor.
