The Toast to Our Stars Club in North Charleroi announced Monday the organization will not hold its annual awards banquet.

The 70th annual Toast To Our Stars Achievement Awards banquet originally scheduled for April 26 has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite the banquet being canceled, the awards and gifts presented to North Charleroi high school students and athletes will still be presented, with an informal event to be held later.

The application deadline for more than $5,000 in educational financial awards has been extended to May 31. Awards available include the TTOS Brad Pelzer Memorial Award, the Cliff Nickisher Memorial Award, John Buberniak Memorial Award, Dorothy and Emil Hyk Memorial Award, Alfred “Aggie” Agamedi Memorial Award and the Richard “Frenchy” Pireaux Citizenship Award.

Thanks to the generosity of last year’s banquet speaker, Belle Vernon Area native and former Penn State football player, Bill Contz, an additional award will be offered in his name this year.
